Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. London, UK Employer Territory Studio TaskTerritory was asked to create an animation that would be projected above the orchestra during the live performance of Nitin Sawhney’s new 16 minute composition “Drifting” inspired by Harvey’s Booker Prize-winning novel Orbital. Role Art Director, Territory I oversaw the production and editing of the animation. Team David Sheldon-Hicks - Contributor Dorian Thomas - Creative Director Live Video Projection Award-winning composer and musician Nitin Sawhney joinsed forces with celebrated author Samantha Harvey for a powerful new commission, premiered by Fantasia Orchestra. Inspired by Harvey’s Booker Prize-winning novel Orbital, a remarkable, lyrical meditation on life aboard a space station, this new work featuresd six new poems by Harvey, accompanied by six new pieces of music and a special new cantata composed by Sawhney, taking inspiration from Orbital. The function of the displays was to provide a real-time surveillance update on the state of the world. This required organizing and assembling hundreds of news stories and stock footage videos so that the wall was constantly active, constantly updating during every scene. The displays included live news tickers, video feeds, news articles with live translations,pertinent data charts and graphs as well as updated maps and satellite imagery. The entire wall display was built using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
